Parish News

  • On Mission for Church Alive info sessions end Aug. 9
Thanks to everyone who attended the information session at St. Patrick’s Church in Canonsburg earlier this month.  The goal of On Mission for the Church Alive is to help us envision how our parishes, schools and ministries can best respond to the changing landscape of our  communities so they can be vital centers of worship and service.

Since 2000, Mass attendance across the diocese has fallen 40 percent, half our parishes are running operational deficits, and pending retirements will mean far fewer priests will be available in the future to serve God’s people. But the possibilities and opportunities are endless.

The On Mission process involves every parish and school in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Consultations will begin this September on the draft models prepared for our local community.

These are the final three sessions:

Aug. 2: St. Margaret, Green Tree, with Father Kunz.

Aug. 8: St. Frances Cabrini, Center Township, with Bishop Zubik.

Aug. 9: St. Valentine, Bethel Park, with Bishop Zubik.

    Visit www.OnMissionChurchAlive.org for more information.
  • Men's Retreat set for Sept. 23-25
The Knights of Columbus will sponsor their annual Men’s Retreat at St. Paul Retreat Center Sept. 23 through 25. All men of the parish are welcome. The theme this year is “Make known to me your ways, Lord.”
Brochures, registration forms and sign-up sheet are located in the lobby of the church. Additional information is available from Jim Milbower at 724-745-0651 or online at stpaulsretreatcenter-pittsburgh.org
  • Youth Group to collect school supplies
In August, the Youth Group will begin its Annual School Supplies Collection. The group received many favorable compliments from the schools’ guidance counselors about this activity.

For the month of August, there will be a box in the vestibule of the church. The Youth Group is seeking any NEW school supplies.  Supplies can include backpacks for all ages, rulers, pencils, color pencils, crayons, markers, notebooks, binders, paper, pens, pencil cases/boxes, glue sticks, construction paper and calculators—anything school-related. A request was made for some insulated lunch bags or boxes for the elementary level.

The Youth Group’s goal is to send 8 backpacks with supplies to the High School, Middle School, NSIS, Muse and South Central schools. There  will be 30 backpacks total—15 for a boy/teen and 15 backpacks for a girl/teen.

If you prefer to make a monetary donation, mark an envelope with "Youth Group School Supplies."

For questions, contact Sue and Andy Harouse at 724-745-5892.  Thank you for your generosity.
  • Come join Summer Choir

Notes from the Music Ministry: Summer Family Choir has started.   Always wanted to sing with the choir, but have been unable to make along-term commitment? Whether you’re a family of 1 or 21, come to the loft before each weekend Mass to rehearse and BE the choir for that Mass. There is no   other commitment, just a desire to participate. See Maria  before or after any weekend Mass if you are interested.
